A list of some of the books that our members recommend:
A surprising little book, or rather booklet, of some 40 pages, most readable particularly for today's younger generation. Fresh off the press, I can see many people buying multiple copies! A teenage friend wrote: “ 'Life Tastes Better' is an interesting read for anyone intrigued
about religion and their own faith in Jesus, and is an easy way to question
what you want to gain from being a Christian. The conversational tone and
personal anecdotes make the book an easy and relatable piece of text in which I
personally saw reflections of my own day-to-day life. Virgo diminishes
misconceptions about Christianity and gives the reader ways to better utilise
their belief in God that can help themselves and others around them. I found
the book somewhat comforting and believe it brought me closer to my own faith
since it is so easy to incorporate Jesus into the decisions I make every day.” For more details click here
A very thorough and Biblical workbook on this often
under-estimated subject. Although
subtitled ‘A Personal Diary’ it is not the author’s personal account but a
linear analysis for any reader. I see the readership divided into three groups:
(1) those born-again believers who are considering Baptism, (2) that group of
believers who may have thought of infant ‘sprinkling’ as an acceptable
interpretation of ‘baptism’, and (3) those older and Baptised Christians who
will enjoy reflecting on the depths of teaching found within the Bible on this
often forgotten subject. A most helpful,
heart-warming and challenging workbook for individual readers or for group study. For more details click here
Sometimes we can struggle to remember God’s instruction for us to be involved in his mission to the world through prayer. Maybe our prayers for missionary friends have become stale or maybe we’ve simply forgotten that praying for the world should be our priority. However we feel we’re doing with praying for the world this devotional booklet will warm our hearts and inspire our prayers with great truths from God’s Word.

I bought copies of this book for some of my older friends. However, upon reading through some of the short chapters I became immediately enthralled by the simple wisdom embedded within each context. So many of the life-skills considered are equally important for Christians of any age and not just the 'old'. Alternatively, it could be considered as a wise preparation for old age. A lovely book which can be enjoyed over and over again. For more details click here
'Grace is one of the most beautiful words in any language, and it is the most supreme description of God' with these opening words the author introduces his theme and in sixteen chapters portrays the grace of God in a variety of aspects, including chapters on Forgiving Grace, Universal Grace and Ultimate Grace.

Another amazing book by Brian Edwards - it really speaks in plain language for today's people. As the 'blurb' says: 'This book is a superbly written modern commentary on God's changeless laws in today's changing and godless society. It unpacks the crammed meaning of these terse commands, and applies them pointedly to life in a deregulated age.'

A new edition of this powerful book is most welcome. It might not be an easy read for a new Christian but it is certainly well written and a most thought-provoking read. In 14 serious chapters which each take at least 45 minutes to work through 'The ups and downs of the Christian life' is a real heart-warming and yet soul-searching study of the Psalms of Ascent.

We live in a world where too many people don’t engage with the Bible. In some parts of the world, the Scriptures are difficult to access or are simply unavailable. In the UK, the Bible is readily available but has lost its significance and its value is unrecognised by millions. We’re working hard here at home and in key areas across the world to change this.
