FAQs-03
Why do people go to church?

This simple question has many answers:

  1. The Church building is where people meet together to worship God.  Very often this is through reading and explaining the word of God, singing hymns which are full of deep meaning and praying.

  2. It is a place where we can learn more about God the Father, the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit - and how what we learn should change the way we live.  Sometimes this is called a teaching ministry.

  3. Public corporate prayer is a very important part of a Christian's life.  Firstly, prayer, either private or public, is about addressing God in worship and listening for what He speaks to our hearts and minds.  The prayers of others are helpful for expressing our own concerns.  Only then might we ask for things that concern us - this is often called intercessory prayer.

  4. Meeting together is about 'fellowship' - a word that is often misunderstood.  The Bible instructs us to 'forsake not the assembling of ourselves together'. (see Hebrews 10:25)  Perhaps 'fellowship' can best be described as 'spiritual connectivity'.

  5. Above all, the 'Church' should not be thought of as a building but as a group of people who share the principles taught in the scriptures, ie that we should be working together as a caring local fellowship of believers.
