What do Christians believe?
As we say on our banner heading (above), our Mission Statement is:
'We preach Christ, crucified, resurrected, ascended and alive today.'
But what is all the fuss about? you might ask,
Quite simply, the Bible tells us that 'All have sinned and come short of the glory of God'. And that, if we are honest, is true of all of us. We may not understand it fully but if we stop and think about our own lives, we all know that we are not perfect.
So what is the solution? Throughout the Old Testament we repeatedly read of promises that a 'Saviour' would come who would resolve this sin-problem. Eventually, 'in the fullness of time' God sent His Son into the world to save sinners.
In the New Testament we read in the four Gospel accounts much of the life-story of Jesus of Nazareth, God in human form. We read of His death, resurrection and ascension. Much of the rest of the New Testament deals with how the early Christians learned to put into practice what Jesus had taught.
And that's the bottom line ! Even today people are discovering the truth of the phrase, 'the Lord Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners.' Christians, therefore, believe that the Bible is the Word of God - if you like, 'the Maker's handbook'. Here we find the truth about sin, salvation, peace with God and we discover a security in knowing that we have a place reserved for us in heaven.
